A good place to advertise ideas is on national currency.
When last have you looked at a quarter? I’m examining one right
now. It was struck in 1976. The numbers count important years. Years
since visionaries founded this nation. Years since a man in Galilee
revolutionized earth’s history by the power of ideas.
I note the head of a leader with a very odd haircut. I hope that’s
a wig I’m looking at! He must have been very important because many
states have a town named after him. Around here he did a lot of sleeping
in numerous places. As a new immigrant I learn that he and the founders
of our nation led a rebellion. It was a war of independence against the
super power of the day.
Their victory was founded on ideas. Two of them are on the face of
the coin. One in bold and the other in fine print. They are concepts that
cannot be safely separated. Read them again.
This country was founded on beliefs that originated in the Bible. I
observe much unconstitutional tinkering with those ideas these days.
The education community is telling students that its "scientific" to believe
in unintelligent, evolutionary cause for life. But our United States
constitution holds that we are created.
How can a theory based on survival of the fittest propagate the moral
tenderness to care for the weakest with compassion? We want kids to behave
morally but we have gone soft on what it means to put our trust in God.
The new message is "we can have morals without a moral law giver."
Even one of Christianity’s greatest critics, the German philosopher
Nietzsche, said: "When one gives up the Christian faith, one pulls the
right to Christian morality out from under one’s feet. This morality is
by no means self evident."
There is no safe liberty without national trust in God. Ideas can
be great until they get into people. Here’s an example:
Consider "Neighborliness."
The Cannibal’s idea of liberty is "Tell my neighbor to
let me eat him."
To the real Christian liberty means "tell my neighbor
that I love her."
I fear that a new generation of Americans arose to whom
liberty means: "tell my neighbor to leave me alone!"
A society that undermines its own founding ideas is in trouble.
It’s not too late though.
Reader, take a decision. Join the ranks of the American Revolutionaries.
Become a true patriot.
Understand that internal harmony between the ideas "love for God" and
"love for country" are the way to be safely American.
The Bible includes an inquiry by God: "How can you say that you
love me but don’t do what I tell you" You can say In God We Trust, but
refuse to live by His commands. That is exploitation of the love of God
without fear of the justice and holiness of our Heavenly Father. Trust in
God carries with it a willingness to live life the way scripture
dictates. Liberty amidst lawlessness is a delusion. It will be
short-lived.
Either dump the national motto or live by it. Tell people we don’t
need it any more or embrace it with all your heart. Please stop upholding
this noble idea only when it’s convenient. If you believe in it ask your
school to display it in the classroom. Tell your kids at home why it’s on
our money. Behave in your business transactions as if it matters. These
will show you how much you really trust in God.
